If you have tried the instructions to install Sims 3 package files and the suggested test file (Rick's no intro mod) is not working in your game...
Step 1: Double Check!
If you actually follow the steps correctly from start to finish, your custom content WILL work! If it doesn't work, you did something wrong!
Go through the Installing Sims 3 Package Files FAQ again. Double check the following:
Updated?
Is your game updated to the 1.12 patch or later? Verify your game version in the Launcher and update/patch your game if it's not patched!
In Documents - NOT Program Files?
Are you sure you're putting things in the right place? It goes under My Documents - nothing should be under Program Files!
Folder Names Correct?
Double-check the folder names:
- Under My DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3 you should have a folder called 'Mods' - big M, little s.
- Inside that Mods folder (My DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3 you should have a folder called 'Packages' - big P, little s.
Resource.cfg Name & Location?
Double-check the Resource.cfg file. It should be inside your My DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3Mods folder (alongside the Packages folder) and is called Resource.cfg - big R, little e, not 'Resources' but 'Resource' and it should say .cfg on the end. Make sure you have file extensions showing so you see stuff like .cfg, .package, .rar, and so forth - if you see Resource.cfg on that file but you don't see .whatever on other files, it's probably actually called Resource.cfg.txt - make sure you turn on showing file extension (Identifying File Types section).
Right-click on Resource.cfg and check Properties. Is the file name Resource.cfg or Resource.cfg.txt or something else? It should just be Resource.cfg

Resource.cfg Contents?
Double-double check the Resource.cfg file. It's probably easiest to just delete the one you have and replace it with this one: http://skuld.modthesims.info/Resource.cfg - if the contents of your Resource.cfg are wrong then even if it's named right, it won't work! Both the name and contents of the link just given are correct.
Test File?
Make sure you are using the suggested test file, Rick's No Intro Mod and that you have unzipped it into My DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3ModsPackages. It should be the only file in that folder, and once unzipped, it should be called 'nointro.package'
Step 2: Delete Cache Files
It can be helpful to delete your cache files, so the game regenerates fresh ones, whenever you've added or removed custom content:
Step 3: Collect Info for Help
If you have verified the above points in Step 1 and deleted your cache files in Step 2, then the nointro mod (and thus any other .package format content) should be working. But if it's not, maybe you've missed something. In that case, it may be helpful to get another set of eyes looking at your custom content setup to figure out where you've gone wrong.
For this, you will need to post a new thread of your own in the Sims 3 Help Forums on MTS. Note that there is a separate subforum if you are on a Mac.
